Library, manuscripts & archives
The Jewish Studies library is part of the network of the University of Cape Town Libraries. It is an open access lending library which contains a collection of approximately 25 - 30 000 books and periodicals. The library was established by the Kaplan Centre in 1981 to broaden the scope of UCT Libraries' holdings of classical Hebraica and Judaica, to be able to support both interdisciplinary research and modern courses in contemporary Jewish history and culture. At the core of the library is a collection of 11,000 books and periodicals, bought by the Kaplan Centre from Abraham Duker, a former Professor from the City University of New York.
